Ladies' guide to daily outfits and accessories that you can afford with items even from your own closet

I can't believe it's already that time of year to get your holiday cards sent out to show off your beautiful families, but there's always the dilemma, "What should we wear?" It's simple! Just keep it simple. Don't think too much into it, but at the same time you don't want to be the family that is all matchy-matchy. That is a thing of the past.

COLORS
Great colors to wear this time of year are colors in the white family (whites, ivories, creams, off-whites, etc.), beiges/tans/browns, blacks, reds, and dark greens. These colors all go great together, so try to have your family members all wear a different color that compliments each other. You can even try throwing in different shades of some of the colors too.

PRINTS
In addition, try throwing some patterns in there, but not too much! If you do too many different prints, you're pictures will be too busy and take away from what it's really about, showing off your family's good looks. Also, don't wear patterns if you're taking your picture in front of your decorated tree. The tree has enough going on as it is, but if the background is more plain some great patterns are having one person in stripes or polka dots. However, if you're going for a retro look, knock yourself out and ugly sweater it up with lots of prints!

HATS
Santa hats are a thing of the past. Nobody really wears them in their Christmas card pictures anymore. The only time it's really cute  is on babies or animals. Otherwise, it has got to go. If you are doing an outdoor photo and there's snow, hats or headbands are great! They definitely give the look a different feel and it's cute. Just make sure the hats aren't too busy and going to take away from the individual wearing them AND make sure they all match color-wise. I do recommend doing different styles of hats because again, you don't want to be matchy-matchy.

FORMAL VS. INFORMAL
~If you're going to do formal, make sure everybody is dressed up. There should be nobody wearing jeans. Try putting all the women/girls in dresses or skirts. If they don't want to, then they should be in nice, dress pants. The boys/men should be wearing ties or bow ties, a nice sweater, or a button down shirt, along with dress pants. These pictures should be taken inside because you aren't usually gallivanting around outside in dressy clothes. Also, no sneakers, tennis shoes, or crocs.

~If you're going for an informal look, there really should be no dresses, skirts, or dress pants. Keep everybody in jeans or casual pants.
~If you're doing it outside, wear jackets that all match in color, aren't too busy, but are different styles. You can throw in hats, scarves, and gloves/mittens. This will give it a cute outdoorsy look, and have everybody in boots or warm shoes. A great place to take these pictures are obviously outside, especially if you're cutting down your Christmas tree. DO NOT take a picture like this inside.
~An inside informal look, again you can wear jeans or casual pants, nice shirts/tops for women/girls are blouses or sweaters or a plain shirt with a scarf. For the men/boys, button down shirts, sweaters, or polos are great options.

PAJAMAS
This again can be too busy, but if it's a tradition, do it! Otherwise, if you're doing just your kids, then it's okay, but it's a bit too childish for adults. In addition, make sure the pajamas are appropriate and go with the holiday feel.
